The Spirit River and District Museum is more than a museum. It is truly a stopping place for visitors. The museum is always bussling with visitors and local residents enjoying special events, swapping stories and enjoying the many, many displays.

Surrounded by several historic buildings, the Spirit River and District Museum uses its large collection of farm tools, equipment, and many household artefacts to provide a view of homestead life in the central Peace River country during the early part of the century.

The Spirit River and District Museum’s collection includes local newspapers, pictures, furnishings, and tools. The museum is home to the Charlie Oxford's Cabin, Avery and Ida Winchell's homestead house, a church, school, pole shed, farmhouse, flour mill, planer and sawmill, and a 100 year old horse driven wooden water well drilling machine. Visitors will find a blacksmith shop, dairy milk house, Pitch Oven, and an oilfield pump jack.  A post office and general store, with a hospital operating rroom make up the main museum building.

The Town of Spirit River is one of the oldest towns in the Central Peace Region. Spirit River now has a population 1,100 (2004 stats)
